Obituary

Major Nathan Gene Hamrick, U. S. Army Retired, of Denton, Texas joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 17, 2006, after a courageous battle with mesothelioma, due to asbestos exposure while serving onboard Navy ships during the Korean War. Born to Attie and Simpson Hamrick, in Charleston, West Virginia on October 22, 1947. Gene grew up in Webster Springs, West Virginia. Severed in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1957. Graduated Marine OCS, and was commissioned in the U. S. Army Signal Corps in 1957. Retired as Major, U. S. Army in 1967. After his military career, Gene worked for ITT Electron Tube Division and subsequently owned and managed several businesses in Austin, Texas.

Survived by wife Linda: daughters, Terri Lyn, and husband Don Kennedy, of Swannanoa, North Carolina, Debra , and husband Ron Garraffa of Clearwater, Florida; Gail Ann Hamrick-Pigg, and husband Gary Pigg of Wimberley, Texas; grandchildren Matthew, Julia and Tera Pigg, Patrick Kennedy, Erika Garraffa, Chiristina Riggio, Ron Garraffa, Jr. and Melissa Mitchell; Brothers and Sisters, Nancy Bigelow, George Hamrick, Paul Hamrick, Linda Harrington and Nell Long and great granddaughters Alyssa Riggio and Dani Mitchell.

A memorial sevice will be held at 4 P.M. Saturday, November 18, 2006 in the Chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, with Chaplain Don McWhinney, officiating. The family expresses its gratitude to the physicians, medical staff of the Denton Presbyerian Hosital and Chaplain Don McWhinney. Gene will be interred with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D. C. On line condolences at www.mulkeymason.com
