Myra Reynolds Stockard, 82, of Merced passed away on Monday, October 5 at
home with her family at her side. During her long illness Myra and the
family appreciated the caring assistance provided by the California Home
Health Care and Hospice. She was born on her great grandfather's ranch in
Denton County near Little Elm, TX to Claude and Irene Reynolds on November 14, 1926.
Myra was a premature baby and for the first weeks after her birth, a shoe
box was used for her baby bed. She attended several rural elementary
schools in Denton County. The family moved to Lewisville, TX and she
finished elementary school and graduated from Lewisville High School in
1944. In 1946, Myra married her high school sweet heart William Stockard.
She worked in Dallas at Butler Brothers and in 1949, William worked as a
public school teacher and Myra started several hobbies. Painting with oils,
sewing and quilting kept her busy. Later on she attended college classes
learning pottery molding. In 1958, the Stockards moved to Merced and Myra
was active in Merced Human Relations Club, League of Women Voters and
graduated from Merced College. She was also active in the United Methodist
Church, NAACP, peace groups, and volunteering at the Career Learning Center at Merced High School.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years William Stockard; sons
Kyle Stockard of Merced and Kraig Stockard of Delhi, CA.; siblings Jack (Sylvia)Reynolds, Jim Reynolds and Norman (Karleen) Reynolds all of Lewisville, TX, Everett (Sandra) Reynolds of Carthage, TX, Jeannette (Don) Montgomery of Temple, TX, sister-in-law Dora Anne (Meridith) Sides of Lewisville and aunt Louise Miller of Corsicana, TX. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. A graveside service will follow immediately at Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville. Reverend Ramon Womack will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Hospice, Habitat For Humanity or any organization of donor's choice.
