Obituary

Mildred Ann (Snow) Johnson, fondly known as "Millie," passed away on March 23, 2025 in Denton, at age 89 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deskin Decatur Snow and Elizabeth Calk Snow, her sister Leloise Green, and her brother William Snow, all of Corpus Christi. She is survived by Douglas, her devoted husband of 52 years; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Jan Hipp; her daughter, Nan Rayburn; and her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Holloway and Patrick Holloway. Millie was the loving grandmother to seven wonderful and talented grandchildren; Stephanie Hipp, Lauren Hipp, Melissa Hipp, Ben Burmeister, Rachel Burmeister, Samuel Holloway, and Allison Holloway. She also was the loving grandmother-in-law to two wonderful and accomplished young women, Selina Fillinger and Kaitlyn Hipp.

Millie was a proud native Texan. Born on August 25, 1935, in Corpus Christi, she spent her childhood and young adult life there, where she graduated from W. B. Ray High School in 1953. She attended Del Mar College before moving to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Art. Following graduation, she became an art and a science teacher in the Corpus Christi and Austin public schools. Millie had many talents, and during her time in Corpus Christi, she was an active member of the South Texas Art League, winning awards for her paintings. She also played the flute in the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra.

Millie's love for people motivated her to turn her career aspirations toward counseling. While still working as a full-time teacher, she acquired her Master's degree in Psychology from Texas A & I University (now Texas A & M University-Kingsville), and began work as a public school counselor. Not willing to stop her education with a Master's degree, Millie's career aspirations ultimately led her to attend North Texas State University (now The University of North Texas) in Denton, where she received her Ph.D. degree in Counselor Education in 1974. She subsequently attained her license as a Psychologist, helped found the Denton Area Psychotherapists' Association, and enjoyed a fulfilling and successful career. She had her private practice in Denton for 27 years, helping hundreds of people change their lives for the better.

After establishing her practice, Millie resumed her painting, and was an active member of the Visual Arts Society of Texas for many years. She also resumed her childhood hobby of crocheting, and crocheted many beautiful hats, scarfs, and afghans for her friends and family. In her personal life Millie loved traveling with her family, playing with her adorable grandchildren, and preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Our entire family revolved around her, and her loss has left a huge hole in our lives.

No services are planned. A celebration of her life for family members will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
