Merle Joseph Eggett was born on October 2, 1926, to Mary Margaret Moss and Hyrum Russell Eggett in West Point, Utah.  He died April 12, 2018 in Denton, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Dawn Haueter Eggett, in December of 2015.

He was a graduate of Davis High School, where he met Dawn and started courting her in the 11th grade.  At 17 he joined the Air Corps where he underwent Cadet Training in Montana. While in the military he and Dawn were married in April of 1945.  After his discharge he went to work for Utah Oil Refining Co. where he worked for the next 43 yrs.  It took 2 yrs. for Merle and Dawn to build their home in Bountiful, Utah.  Working evenings and Saturdays they were able to move in in 1947. In the 1950's he became the Scout Master and continued to love scouting throughout the remainder of his life.  Merle was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.  While living in Utah he and Dawn served as hosts in Pioneer Village for 5 yrs. and as workers in the Salt Lake Temple.  They moved to Texas in 1991 where they once again enjoyed living in the country.  They continued serving in the church as Temple workers in the Dallas Temple for the next 11 years.  He was the father of 4 children; Clyde (Kristene) Eggett of Cedar City, Utah, Gloria Evans of Draper, Utah, Michael (Lorie) Eggett of Washington, Utah, and Connie (Rick) Martino of Denton, Texas. They have 20 grandchildren, with 44 great grandchildren; and counting.  The funeral will be held Tuesday April 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3000 Old North Rd., Denton .  Visitation with family will be prior at 9:15-9:45.  He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the L.D.S. churches' mission fund.
