Obituary

Matthew Scott Bryant passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at his home in Denton, TX.

Matthew was born in Union City, Tennessee on June 27, 1992 and grew up in Denton, TX.  A graduate of Billy Ryan High School in 2010, Matthew was known for excelling in his classes. He was also known for his role as captain in Honor Guard where he was able to express his spiritedness and goofy antics. It is where he met the love of his life, Kayla, in physics class, and where they shared their high school adventures together in honor guard and drill team. Matthew's high intelligence and love for studying lead him to pursue a bachelor's degree in mathematics which he was currently pursuing at Texas Women's University in Denton, TX.

To his friends and loved ones, Matthew was known for his incredibly kind heart, his intelligent mind, and his silly sense of humor. Matthew loved his friends and family dearly, and if any of them were in need he did everything he could and gave everything he had to make sure they were okay. Matthew enjoyed stand-up comedy and making everyone laugh with his dad jokes. He found humor in hitting his friends and family with his jokes when least expected. When he came at them with, "a moth goes into a podiatrist's office", they knew they were in for a good laugh or even a groan, and that brought the biggest smile to his face. Because he was an intelligent man, Matthew was skilled at playing chess. He brought a chess board almost everywhere ready to play with anyone who enjoyed the game. If you ask anyone, they will tell you that it was quite difficult to beat him at the game. Matthew also has been and always will be known for his love of baseball ever since he was a baby. His heart always stayed true to the Atlanta Braves, but his favorite team was the Texas Rangers. One of his favorite memories was when he went to a Rangers game for his birthday with his wife Kayla and his Parents Karen and Pierce, where he got his baseball signed by David Murphy. Matthew was also very talented at playing the guitar, he enjoyed playing Radiohead the most, but the best music he ever played was the music he created on his own. The sounds he created from his guitar were beautiful enough to bring tears to your eyes. Matthew brought so much light into this world, and though he may be gone, his light will continue to shine through the hearts he has touched through his life. Because of the impact he has had on all our lives, Matthew will never truly be gone.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Kayla Bryant (Bennett) of Denton, TX; Mother and Step Father, Karen Gawne (Randall) and Pierce Gawne of Sanger, TX; Father, Dwayne Bryant of Enville, TN; brothers and sisters, Daniel Bryant-Gawne of Denton, TX, Keith Bryant of Denton, TX, Joshua Gawne of Denton, TX, Jessica DeMent (Gawne)  of Southmayd, TX, and Jamie Gawne of Gainesville, TX; nephews and niece, Aiden Gawne of Sanger, TX, Corey Gawne of Denton, TX, Brenna Gawne of Denton, TX, Zachary DeMent of Southmayd, TX, Ripken DeMent of Southmayd, TX, Jerry Elmore of Gainesville, TX, and Caden Elmore of Gainesville, TX, grandparents; Judith Perrin of Enville, TN and Carol Bryant of Southfulton, TN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Racheal (Maxwell) Hyman of Denver, CO and Tiffany (Danny) Roberts of Trenton; mother-in-law Kim Wozniak of Denton, TX; and fur-children, Riker and Ketone.
