January 9, 1928 – November 11, 2023
Nelwyn Penley, long-time resident of Denton, passed from this mortal life on November 11, 2023, at the age of 95 and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born in Henderson, Texas to Gilbert and Faye Anderson. The family lived in San Augustine, Mt. Pleasant and Kilgore, and later moved to Port Arthur, where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1946. She graduated from Baylor University in 1950. She married Elmo Penley in June of that year. They lived in Dallas where he attended Baylor Dental School and Nelwyn taught third grade in Dallas ISD. In August 1953, the couple settled in Denton, where Elmo opened a dental practice and later specialized in orthodontics. They built their life together and raised their family. Nelwyn was a devoted wife and caring mother to their three children, Mark, Beth and Dick, and a loving grandmother to her 6 grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and loved to read. She was a member of Denton Bible Church. She pointed her children toward faith in Christ. She is survived by her three children Mark (Cindy) Penley of Dallas, Beth (Wayne) Purser of Pilot Point and Dick (Kris) Penley of Dutton AL, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, Dr. Jim (Sue) Anderson of College Station. After a graveside service, a memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church in Dallas.
