Mary Constance (Morton) Norton, Connie, 84, went home to be with our Lord on January 17, 2017. Connie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She left a legacy of love that will never be forgotten.
Connie was born in Endicott, NY on Feb. 29, 1932 to Harley and Elizabeth Morton. A leap year baby, the family would always laugh about how young she was since her birthday came only once every four years.
Connie was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing, sewing and gardening. The residents at Good Samaritan in Denton, where she lived, knew her as a neighbor and friend and they also greatly appreciated her gardening skills; her butterfly garden was a sight to behold.
But the thing Connie loved most was her family everyone knew where to go or who to call for encouragement and support. She always had a warm smile, a wise word and usually a delicious meal on the table! Each of Connie's six children were born in a different state, so in the early years of her marriage, there was a move about every two years or so but she always managed to help everyone settle in and get ready to begin a new adventure. Whether it was loading up all six kids into the station wagon for a family vacation or playing games around the table, the laughter and the memories she created will live on. She delighted in having her family around her at all times but especially for birthdays and holidays and had a way of making every occasion special.
Faith and family were two words that described Connie's life and legacy. One of her favorite verses was John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Despite her long battle with cancer, Connie lived her life with the peace and assurance that one day she would walk through the front door of heaven and be greeted by our loving Father.
Connie is survived by her sisters Marlene Williams and Jane Cunningham, brother John Morton of Fort Worth, TX, her six children: Debbie Bell and her husband Jack, Brian Norton and his wife Peggy, Scott Norton and his wife Kerry, Amy Norton, Robert Norton and his wife LaQuita and Leslie Wilder and her husband Jim; 12 grandchildren: Jason Bell, Eric Bell, Cole Norton, Garren Norton, Brandon Norton, Callie Norton, David Norton, Jonny Norton, Alex Norton, Hawley Diaz, Garnett Hinds and Britton Ford and six great grandchildren: Keegan, Keaton, Elijah, Jax, Stella and Oliver and numerous nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her husband Richard Norton, brothers Lawrence and George Morton and her parents Harley and Elizabeth Morton.
A memorial will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, January 28th at First United Methodist Church, Cole Chapel, 201 S Locust, Denton, TX. In lieu of flowers please consider making memorial donations to First United Methodist Church in memory of Mary Constance Norton.
