Obituary

Mary McSpadden

On January 25, 2008, our beloved sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and dear friend went to be with the Lord. Mary was born February 27, 1918 in Denton, Texas to Wiley and Evelyn Patterson. She and her husband Bob, who predeceased her in 2001, were life-time residents of Denton, Texas. Mary attended CIA, the predecessor to TWU, and then worked until her retirement for GTE. Mary and Bob were married December 31, 1940 and were deeply devoted to one another, their families and many close friends. Mary was a skilled and wonderful homemaker. Both were active members of Denton Bible Church. Mary will be remembered for many things including her deep love and affection for children. She became like a second mother to her nephews and niece and a grandmother to her many great nieces and nephews and their offspring. Many of her wonderful neighbor's children would make the same claim on their "Aunt May". Mary will be most profoundly remembered for her commitment and undying love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mary was a long time member of Bible Study Fellowship and was a dedicated student of the scriptures. She modeled discipleship and servanthood up to the time of her death even after she was largely house bound. She spend many hours of her day in prayer, Bible study and in calling friends that were ill or house bound that needed a word of Christian encouragement. Mary was the intercessory prayer warrior of her family. She had a wonderful way of putting life into proper perspective for her loved ones when she often reminded us that the one thing that matters most in life is "our relationship with the Lord", to which she would always reaffirm with a "That's right! Mary is survived by one sister, Evelyn Lain, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 28 at the chapel of Denton Bible Church with Pastor Tommy Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 27 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home. Memorials can be sent to Denton Bible Church, 2300 E. University Drive, Denton, Texas 76209.
