Obituary

Mary Colleen Grumbein, 86, of Denton, Texas, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Denton Good
Samaritan Village.
Ms. Grumbein was born on July 5, 1937, in Russell, Kansas to William Albert and Ida Irene (Krause)
Motzner. She graduated from Russell High School in 1955. She married Albert Royce Grumbein on
August 31, 1958, in Russell, Kansas. She graduated from Fort Hayes State University with a Bachelor of
Arts in Elementary Education. She taught at Knapp Elementary School in Denver, Colorado, prior to
raising her two daughters. She returned to work as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the
College of Computer Sciences at the University of North Texas, where she retired in 2002. She was an
avid reader, gardener and loved to spend time sewing. She was active in Bible studies, Sunday school
classes and involved in many clubs and was especially proud of being a member of the P.E.O. promoting
educational opportunities for women around the world. She was a member of the Lakeland Baptist
Church, Lewisville, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Royce Grumbein on May 17, 2018. She is survived by
daughters Lisa Grumbein of Dallas, Texas, Lori McGinnis and husband Colin of Franklin, North Carolina;
brother Bill and wife Linda of Lexington, Nebraska; sister in law Valdah Tittel of Porter, Texas; brother in
law Eldon and wife Debbie of New Braunfels, Texas; grandson Matt and wife Leah of Portage, Indiana;
grandson Josh of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter Kaitlyn Casas and husband Adam of Plano, Texas;
great grandchildren Braiden, Dillon, and Elijah; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
