Mary Martha Cowan, 86, of Denton, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at her home. She was born January 3, 1927 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Delmer A. and Esther Sarah (Olsen) Stowell. She was married to Paul Jackson Cowan on June 1, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist University. She was a retired teacher with the Denton Independent School District. She was a member of Gateway United Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cowan is survived by her husband Paul Cowan of Denton; daughters, Shirley Sue Williams and husband Woodie of Bartonville, TX, Beverly Gail Baker and husband Jim of Shamrock, TX, Linda Beth Muse and husband Guy of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Jana Lou Nelms and husband Phillip of Katy, TX; sisters, Elizabeth O'Donnell of Tulsa, OK, Ruth Stowell of Del City, OK; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Paul Cowan.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Gateway United Baptist Church, 2400 N. Bell Ave., Denton, and a funeral service will follow on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 4 P.M. at the church with Rev. Buddy Owens and Rev. Mike Stowell officiating.
