Martha Jean Springer, 88, daughter of Ernest and Margaret Armitage, was born June 20, 1923 in Coral, Michigan, one of three children. Martha graduated from Everett High School and Michigan State University, both in Lansing, Michigan. Martha received a degree in Foods and Nutrition from Michigan State University upon her graduation.
On Feb. 1, 1946, Martha was wed to the late Lyle Springer and soon after moved to Princeton, Ill., in 1949. She was a dedicated homemaker that created warm and entertaining homes in not only Illinois, but Missouri, Colorado, and then eventually in Denton, Texas.
Martha's favorite activities were fishing, camping, gardening and corresponding with friends and relatives. She was a founding member of the Central High Booster Club in St. Joseph, Mo. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton, she was involved in the 39er's Club. She enjoyed the many members of First Baptist and the Friendship Class.
After a short illness, Martha died in peace with her family at bedside at Vitas Hospice in Fort Worth, TX on Sept. 28, 2011. Martha was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Krisanne Springer-Barker of Kitchener, Ontario. Martha is survived by her daughter Kedra Vaccaro of Liberty, MO., her spouse Vincent Vaccaro; two sons, Kip Springer of Denton, Texas, his spouse Jan Burns Springer, and Kraig Springer of Grapevine, Texas, his spouse Susan Wheeler Springer; one sister, Loraine Eagleson of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Martha was blessed with eight grandchildren; Matthew Barker of Kitchener, Ontario; Jealaine Vaccaro-Marple of Dubuque, IA, Jonathan Vaccaro of Atlanta, GA, and Jayna Vaccaro-Buckley of Kansas City, MO; Colby and Preston Springer of Denton, Texas; Erin and Kelly Springer of Grapevine, Texas; two great granddaughters, Sydney and Abigail Barker of Kitchener, Ontario; two nephews, several cousins, other relatives and cherished friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to Ann's Haven Hospice of Denton, Texas, or the First Baptist Church of Denton's Bus Fund.
Martha's family encourages those near and fond of her, to attend a celebratory memorial service to be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Mulkey- Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Zack Pannell officiating. A graveside service will be conducted only for the family.
