Obituary

Martha Louise Harris, age 64, died on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Martha was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1958, to Frances Elizabeth Silver and William Albert Silver. She married Carl Matthew Harris on August 8th, 1981. After earning her degree in teaching at Oklahoma State University, she spent several years teaching physical education and history before transitioning to being a full-time home educator. Martha's love of learning and sense of calling as a mother led her to become an expert in childhood education. Throughout the process of raising and educating eight children, Martha became an English teacher, a mathematician, an historian, and a Latin teacher. One of her greatest skills was managing and tailoring her children's education to their needs, outsourcing when necessary to other tutors. Most of all, she was a priestess: a lover of Jesus who taught her children above all else to "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness."

As a child, Martha was a thrill-seeking adventurer who loved to push her horses and motorcycles to the limit. In her youth, her parents feared for her untimely demise, and in her adulthood her children feared for theirs. There was no roller coaster too big for her, no country too far for her, and no task she couldn't do while managing two to five others. Martha rarely sat still, investing her time in her children's physical, material, and spiritual wellbeing, even amid her struggle with cancer. Her bottomless vitality and adventurous spirit taught her children the meaning of courage in the face of peril. Martha's joie de vivre inspired her many entrepreneurial ventures.

Martha owned and operated North Texas Bounce Houses for 15 years and invested in several other business ventures. To her children's relief, her dream of owning a port-a-potty rental company never came to fruition. Despite this, Martha encouraged her children to pursue their passions regardless of how unusual. Her steadfast sense of humor and vibrant smile in good and difficult situations carried her children through her eight-year struggle with cancer.

Martha hungered and thirsted for righteousness. Her life's desire was fulfilled as she confidently joined her son, mother, and father in heaven, setting her eyes on Jesus in her new life after death. She is survived by her husband, Carl Matthew Harris, and her seven children: Olivia, Samuel, Abi, Craig (Faith Hampton), Robyn, Brent (Lindsey Dodd), and Tyler Harris. A memorial service will be held 2pm Wednesday, October 19th in the chapel of Denton Bible Church which will be followed by a graveside service at the Green Valley Cemetery.
