Obituary

Martha Lucybell Burgoon White of Krugerville, died Monday afternoon, November 13, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.

She was born March 30, 1923 in Denton, Texas to Charlie and Grace Bell (Watson) Burgoon. She graduated from Denton High School, and attended TSCW (now Texas Woman's University), and North Texas State Teachers College (now the University of North Texas).

As a young adult during World War II, she was employed at Russell-Newman along with her future sister-in-law Marie Erwin and future mother-in-law Celia White. She married the love of her life, Cecil Edwin White, December 8, 1945 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home in Denton, he died October 25, 2001. To this union, two daughters, Martha Katherine and Sarah Rebekah were born.

She was a faithful Christian and life-long member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, youth sponsor, choir member, member of the Tri-M Class, and active member of the Mary Martha Circle of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry. Ever-thankful for her blessings, she kept a "blessing box" in which she would deposit quarters when she felt she or her friends and family had received a special blessing from God.

She was a dedicated mother and homemaker who loved her family and later enjoyed keeping her two grandchildren who called her "Meme". She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, oil painting, quilting, sewing, and candy making. She also enjoyed traveling with Cecil and her family in their motorhome, as well as touring on their Goldwing motorcycle. Lucy and Cecil enjoyed camping out with friends and their church family. She was a member of the Crossroads Club in Aubrey.

She is survived by her daughters Kathy McIntire and husband Joe of Krugerville and Becky Jarratt and husband Donnie of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Megan McIntire of Aubrey and Casey Jarratt and wife Angie of Artesia, New Mexico; and one great-grandson Rylee Jarratt. She is also survived by nephews Weldon Burgoon, Bob Burgoon, Jim Burgoon, Ben Burgoon and niece Nita Burgoon and cousins Grace Hall and Helen Glenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, her parents, her brothers Worth, Wayne, and Glen Burgoon.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning November 16 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1424 Stuart Rd. The Reverend John Lindsay will officiate. Internment will follow at Old Alton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dean Patterson, Toby Thomason, Steve Newcomb, Mark Rila, Wayne Horsley, and Glenn Davidson.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, at Mulkey Mason Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. Memorials may be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1424 Stuart Rd, Denton Texas 76209.
