Marshall Barrett Baxter, 67, passed away Monday June 10, 2013 in Denton, Texas after a brief illness. Known throughout his life to his family and friends as Barrett in honor of the Barrett family of Harrison, Arkansas, he was born on April 12th, 1946 in Bryan, TX to Lamar County natives Joe Baxter and Flarnce Miears Baxter. Barrett graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan in 1964 and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He spent most of his early life in Bryan. He worked for Houston Power & Light. He later lived in Blossom to be near his mother. Barrett lived the last 6 years of his life in Denton, TX.
Barrett showed talent in mathematics at an early age and invented a form of three way chess while still in high school. Later in his life Barrett enjoyed studying eastern medicine, Asian culture, martial arts, Tai Chi, herbal healing, yoga and aromatherapy. He was very knowledgeable about Tai Chi and loved to educate others about its benefits and that of eastern medicine. He enjoyed food and loved to indulge in the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas family feasts with his Whitten and McBride cousins until his passing. He also enjoyed returning every June to the Miears family farm in Lamar County for the annual Miears/Boren family reunion. Barrett had a very kind heart and was generous with his belongings and would share all that he had with complete strangers. He was an excellent story teller and his unique stories were enjoyed by many who will cherish and remember them always with a smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his uncle, Billy Miears and wife Opal of Dallas, TX, and his aunt, Rita Miears of Bedford, TX. He is also survived by numerous cousins and extended family. He will be greatly missed by his family and will never be forgotten.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 10 A.M. at the Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom, TX.
