Obituary

Reverend Mark Pepoon, age 81, of Lewisville, TX, passed away, Tuesday, July 21, 2009. He was born October 13, 1927 in Huntingdon, PA to Charles and Margery Mills Pepoon. He graduated from Eastport High School and entered the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1946. He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy with a degree in Nautical Sciences in 1950. He sailed Merchant ships for Farrell Lines to West, South and East Africa. He entered the U.S. Navy as Lieutenant Jr. Grade and later served as Gunnery Officer in anti-submarine warfare in the Korean conflict. He was discharged from the Navy and entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1955. He graduated from the Seminary with a degree in Theology and was commissioned as Missionary at Large for the Florida/Georgia District Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  He married Lidia Tertel on September 30, 1961 in Springfield, IL. He moved to Florida in 1961 to serve a congregation there. In 1965 he was called to establish and organize a mission congregation in Tucker, GA and was installed as pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church. In 1982, he served as pastor for the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Granbury, TX. From 1992 to the present, he served as interim pastor for many Lutheran churches in the North Texas area. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lidia Pepoon of Lewisville, TX; daughters, Vivian Jean Cronk and husband, James of Northampton MA, Miriam Alice Cronin and husband, Kevin of Westborough, MA and Jeanette Adell Hill and husband, Troy of Hurst, TX; son, Jonathan Andrew Pepoon of Queens, NY; sister, Doris Bischoff of NJ; brother, Paul Pepoon of KY; grandchildren, Taylor and Zoe Cronin, Elijah and Ava Cronk and Mackenzie and Madison Hill. He was preceded in death by one sister, Eunice Hillard. Memorial services are 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Carrollton. Burial will be 9:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kenya and Peru missions, c/o Prince of Peace
