Marjorie McCandless, 79, of Denton, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Denton Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 12, 1934 in Liverpool, England to William and Florence (Openshaw) Brittles. It was there that she met her husband, Harold Richard McCandless, who was stationed nearby while serving in the U.S. Air Force. They married on May 14, 1955 in Liverpool. After a number of years traveling as a military family, they settled in Carrollton, Texas in 1971. She worked at Gabberts Furniture for 15 years, before retiring and moving to Denton in 1995. She was a devoted member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, where she had just completed a term as a deacon. She was a past president of the Denton Garden Club and learned to quilt as a member of the Sew-N-Sew's.
Mrs. McCandless is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold McCandless of Denton; daughter, Michelle Rose and her husband Larry of Denton; sister, Florence McCoy of Liverpool, England; daughter-in-law, Sherri McCandless Eubanks; grandchildren, Allyson Worley, Jake McCandless, Winston Rose, Olivia Rose and Lillian Rose; and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic.
She was preceded in death by son, Howard "Mac" McCandless; brothers, William Brittles and George Brittles; and sisters, Marie Rogers, Dorothy Childs, Ivy Brittles, and Joan Howard.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Oak St., Denton, TX.
