Dr. Marion D. Arnold, of Denton, went to join his heavenly father on March 4, 2010. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas to Seppie and Irene (Denson). He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn Adkins Arnold, for 57 years. He is also survived by his three children, Karen along with her husband Allen Brinegar and their two sons, Kevin and Christopher, John Arnold along with his wife Dianne and their two sons Marion (Freddie) and Kenneth (KC), Janet Boatright and a beloved extended family.
He was proud to serve his country in the Army during the Korean conflict.
Marion was a retired Petroleum Engineer, rewarded his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 1965. He worked in private industry, including Phillips Petroleum and Core Laboratories. He had a heart for teaching and spent much of his career as a professor. He taught at the University of Missouri at Rolla where he was chairman of the department. He retired from Texas Tech University where he was a professor and student advisor, after 15 years, in 1998 and remained Professor Emeritus to the university he loved. His professional organizations included Sigma Xi, Pi Epsilon Tau (national president)and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (Legion of Honor member)for over 50 years. He was a Master Mason in good standing of Stanfield number 217.
He attended the Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, Texas where he was a deacon.
He was passionate about God, his wife, his family and life. He travelled extensively and had been on five continents. He was full of love and life and lived each day fully.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 5th from 6pm to 8pm at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Denton, Texas. The funeral will be at Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, Texas on Saturday, March 6th at 10am with burial following at the Waxahachie City Cemetery at 2pm.
