During the Great Depression, she completed training as a registered nurse at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis and accepted a position with the United States Public Health Service in Mobile, Alabama. Her career included surgical, medical and public health nursing, and her wise counsel was sought and appreciated by all who knew her. She was the devoted mother of four children who will miss her greatly: Kristin Skousgard of Memphis, TN; Stephen Skousgaard of Reston, VA; Frederick William Skousgard, III of Alajuela, Costa Rica; and Sigrid Glenn of Denton. She is also survived by two brothers (Ohio), six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (Dallas, London, Boston, Alejuela, Reston and Odenton, MD). She moved from Indianapolis to Denton in 1991. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a volunteer at Westgate Hospital and Denton Regional Medical Center, where she died. Her life will be celebrated at a gathering at Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village on Saturday, May 5, 1:30-3:00 pm.
