Margaret Brown Allen passed from this life on January 11, 2016, at age 98. Margaret was a life-long resident of Denton County, born November 8, 1917 in Justin, TX. She was the only daughter of Mamie and EB (Bernard) Brown of Sanger, where she spent her childhood. In 1936 she married Elwood Allen from Justin. Margaret was devoted to her husband and was great support as he built his Denton businesses. After retirement, the couple travelled extensively until Mr. Allen passed away in 1978. Margaret continued to travel the world with friends and family as recently as 2007.
The defining trait which brought Margaret gracefully to her old age was her positive attitude. She was quick to see the best in people and rarely complained or criticized. She had a great capacity to accept others, young and old, of any background. She had a gift for hospitality. Her children grew up with open-ended permission to entertain friends and were taught that the home was to be shared.
Margaret was loved by many generations, and known to most as "Murr." She was fortunate to have close relationships with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was especially close to her children's spouses, always considering them as her own. Because she was blessed with age and good health, she experienced the loss of many friends, but had a great capacity to continue make new ones.
Margaret was a long time member of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ and woman of steady faith. She taught her family that "all things work together for good to those who love the Lord," a philosophy that fueled her optimism for life. She is survived by daughters Bernie Kay Brown of Denton, Annabelle Harn and husband Larry of Denton, Carolyn Pool Kiley and husband Richard of Dallas, and son John Allen and wife Cindy of Huntsville, AL. Grandchildren include Dale and Sandy Brown, Gayla and J.W. McFarland, LeeAnn Latham (deceased) Leslea Latham, Kelly and Larry Quintero, Matt and Jennifer Pool, Molly and Phil Cheves, David, Mark, and Lucy Allen, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services honoring her life will be held at the Singing Oaks Church of Christ on Sunday, January 17th. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00 pm and services at 3:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on January 16th at 2:00 P. M. at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to the Singing Oaks Church of Christ or donor's charity of choice. Arrangements by Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Denton.
