Maebelle Talafuse, age 82, of Highland Village, Texas passed away Friday, March 14, 2008 following a long illness. Mrs. Talafuse was born October 4, 1925 in San Angelo, Texas to Walter Leslie Wimberley and Minnie Lee Ward. She cherished her Wimberley roots. She married a career military officer, Darwin "Tally" Talafuse who preceded her in death in 1992. As a military wife she followed her husband across the United States and the world. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Flower Mound; worked as an elementary school teacher teaching 3rd and 5th grades at Bowie Elementary in San Angelo for 11 years. In her early years she worked as a teletype operator for Western Union during World War II and as a typesetter for the San Angelo Standard Times. Mrs. Talafuse was also preceded in death by her sisters, Odell Slaven, Ora Ricci, Vivian Gaston and Nellie Ruth Wimberley. She is survived by her daughter, Laura "Kathleen" Talafuse of Highland Village; sons, David Talafuse and his wife, Rose of San Antonio, Geoffrey Talafuse and his wife, LaRae of Billings, Montana, Paul Talafuse and his wife, Donna of Berthoud, Colorado and Timothy Talafuse and his wife, Laura of Highland Village. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as numerous relatives and friends and her favorite cat, Will. A funeral service will be held at 2p.m., Monday, March 17, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Church, 6000 Morriss Rd., Flower Mound, TX 75028. Visitation will be from 1p.m. to 2p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be Wednesday at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo at 10:00 a.m. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
