Lucille Armstrong Orr, 91, of Denton, died Saturday April 16, 2011 at her home in Denton.
Mrs. Orr was born in the house her father helped build for his family in the Concord Community near Cleburne, in Johnson County, TX. She was the youngest of six children born to Robert Martin and Florence Eva (Moncrief) Armstrong.
She was married to Charles Carpenter Orr, Jr. on August 9, 1943 in Mineral Wells. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the North Texas State Teachers College (University of North Texas).
She was the first female employed in the Denton County District Attorney's office. She also was the first female Probation Officer for the Denton County Probation Department. She retired from the Denton County Auditor's and Treasure's office.
She joined the Denton Shakespeare Club in 1978 and was a member until her death. She was also a member of the City Federation of Woman Clubs and served as Reservation hostess from 1980 to 2004. She joined the First United Methodist Church of Denton in 1956 and was a member until her death. She served in many capacities for the church including Administrative Board member.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Florence; husband, Charles C Orr; Jr.; brothers, Herbert William, Joe Cabot, and Robert Emmett; sister, Eva Mae; and daughter, Caryn Elizabeth.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl McAllister and husband Michael of Dublin, GA; Connie Nance and fiancé Joe Cole of Denton; sister, Mildred Bennett of McKinney; five grandchildren, Caryn Riggs and husband Clay, Christopher McAllister, Forrest Nance and wife Amanda, Baylie Nance and fiancé Shane McDuffie, Dana Robinson and husband Jeff; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Riggs, Kenzie Riggs, Aiden McAllister, Caleb Nance, and Abel Robinson; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Mulkey-Mason funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2011. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Locust, Denton. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Reverend Lisa Marshall will officiate.
