Lucille Jones Banks Smedley passed away at 5:40 p.m., Thursday, January 7 surrounded by her children in Azle, Texas. She was 84.
Mrs. Smedley was born December 7, 1925, in Fullerton, Kentucky the first child to Wentford D and Frances Elizabeth (Virgin) Jones. She joined the Navy WAVES in 1945 and married Air Force B25 pilot Herbert J Banks on June 1, 1948. They raised their four children in Purcell, Oklahoma. Following Mr. Banks' death in 1978 she married Jack Smedley in 1991 and they lived in Ponce de Leon, Florida until his death in 2006, when she then moved to Texas to be with her children.
Lucille (Lucy) Smedley was a career nurse. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Mona Lee, brother Ivan, sister Suzanne Caszatt and a grandson Timothy Field.
Mrs. Smedley is survived by daughters Janice Banks of Denton, Texas, Jeri and husband Kelly Field of Fort Worth, Texas; Karen and husband Kevin Ingle of Azle, Texas; son Wesley Banks and wife Heidi of Oklahoma; brother Elton Jones and wife Marylee of Hamilton, Ohio and Douglas Jones of Niles, Michigan; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A viewing and wake will be on Monday, January 11 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Denton, Texas followed by interment in the DFW National Cemetery, Friday, January 15.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in Lieu of Flowers.
