and courageous fight against cancer. Her family will always cherish the loving and
caring support she received from church, friends, and neighbors.Lucile was born on December 27, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harper Brown
and Clara Dansie Cowles. She was the first of three children and the first grandchildon both sides of the family. Full of the adventurous spirit, nurtured by travel with her
Army father and continued with her Army husband, Lucile had traveled to most of thestates and many foreign countries, including much of western Europe, Greece, and
Turkey, Egypt, Canada, and New Zealand. She was a devoted member of theMormon Church her entire adult life and the descendant of Mormon pioneers in all her
family lines.In Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, she met future husband, Carl B. Guess, while both her military
men were assigned there, her dad in the artillery school and Second Lieutenant Guess,on his very first posting after graduation from the United States Military Academy and
commissioning as an artillery officer. They were blessed with four children and eightgrandchildren, the youngest being twins John Alexander and Elizabeth Catherine
born January of this year to the youngest son Randolph and his wife Elizabeth Guess.Lucile's wisdom and compassion touched the lives of many in the church where she
was a bible school teacher and served in the Relief Society and children's organizations.She was a natural educator and an English teacher by choice and profession, having been
assigned to both Denton High School and Ryan High School in Denton in her twentyyears of teaching. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and received her teacher
education from the University of North Texas, but had attended a number of schools,including the Universities of Utah and Oklahoma, while traveling with her father and
husband.She is survived by her husband, Carl; her four children; her brother Col. James H.
Cowles and his wife, Frances, and sister Lynne Cowles Gabrish and husband, Bill.She is also survived by one niece and numerous nephews, her beloved stray canines,
Tippie, Bud, Sparky, and Bo, and many others. Lucile was preceded in death by herMother and Father and her Mother- and Father-in-Law, Minnie Lee and Carl Guess, Sr.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2007 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at theMulkey-Mason Funeral Home at 705 N. Locust, Denton, Texas. The memorial service
will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1801 Malone, Denton,Texas, at 4:00 pm, Saturday, June 28, 2007. Dedication of the grave will follow
at Roselawn Memorial Park immediately after the service.Donations in memory of Lucile can be made to the Humanitarian Relief Fund of The
Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints 1801 Malone , Denton, Texas 76201 and to American
Cancer Society.
