Lovena Pearl Fry Mena, born February 17, 1933 to parents: Cleo Bryan Fry and Annie Pearline Holland Fry of Oak Cliff, TX, went to be with her Lord on January 23, 2009. She is survived by three sons: Jack L. Vandever, Jr. & wife Laura of Corinth, TX, Brian Mack Vandever of Ovilla, TX, and Gregory Brent Vendever of Bedford, TX. Also survived by siblings: Alton Fry of Waxahachie, Janine Williams of Kopperl, Dana MacDonald of Waxahachie, Lee Fry of Plano, and Elaine Barnett of Nassau Bay, TX. Lovena enjoyed seven grandchildren and seven-great grandchildren. She was widowed in May 2000 while living in California where she and her husband Manuel served in prison ministry, Catholic Rainbow Outreach and mission work in Mexico. Upon being widowed, she returned to Dallas and began serving in prayer ministry. Later, even after developing Parkinsonism, she served as a hospice volunteer and was given the 2003 Community Service Award by Mayor Laura Miller. She worked as a Christian preschool teacher in both California & Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday January 27, 2009 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, TX. Dr. Larry Reynolds will officiate the service. Interment will be later that day at 2:00 PM in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
