Lloyd Walton Darnell

Lloyd Walton Darnell, a lifelong resident of Denton, Tx, passed away at the age of 84 years old on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from complications of Dementia.

Lloyd was born to Walton and Alice Mae Sloan Darnell on June 13, 1939.  Lloyd is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elsie Ellison Darnell, daughter and son in law, Karen and Paul Whitlock, daughter and son in law, Yvette, and Mitch Prater and his sister, Joyce Fix and nephews, Keith, Scott and Mark Fix of Georgia.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice Darnell Baroni.

Proverbs 17:6 says, "Grandchildren are the crown of the aged".  Lloyd was crowned with 9 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 12 great grandsons and 6 great granddaughters.  He has left behind the legacy of the family who will miss him.

Lloyd started working at an early age.  He and a lifelong friend operated a gas service station at the corner of N. Elm and Pauline Street.  This time of his life is when he purchased his first and his last car, a 1948 Ford Coupe which he owned until last year.

In 1960, he began a 40-year career with Texas Instruments in Dallas where he and a co-worker developed and patented a Semiconductor device.  When he wasn't at work, he spent time with his girls watching them play softball tournaments, camping and riding motorcycles with them.

When Lloyd retired, he spent his time restoring the '48 Ford, fishing, hunting, and traveling with Elsie and friends.  He and Elsie also traveled all over the Country to watch their Grandsons play their high school and college Baseball and Football games.

Lloyd was admired by his family and friends.  He was always there with his sense of humor and his tools when they needed him to help solve a problem or repair a broken-down car.  He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed reading their magazines along with the National Geographics publications.

The Family would like to thank the many home caregivers, the staff of Unlimited Care, Fairhaven Denton, and Trio Hospice for providing wonderful love and care to Lloyd.

Services for both Lloyd and his daughter, Alice will be held at Gateway United Baptist Church on Thursday, October 12, 2023.  The Family Greeting will be at 10:00 am and the Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 am.  There will be a private burial of the cremains at Belew Cemetery.
