IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linda Simmons
Thompson
October 8, 1948 – October 30, 2023
Linda Simmons Thompson went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on October 30, 2023 after a nine-year battle with carcinoid cancer. Linda was born on October 8, 1948 to Theodore and Betty Simmons and grew up in Edmonds, Washington. At the age of 20, she became a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines. Shortly after completing her airline training, she became a civilian airline crew member servicing the military charters that carried United States service personnel to and from Vietnam. Upon reflection, she remarked that this period was the most rewarding time of her career at Braniff Airlines.
Linda then continued her airline career in Houston, TX. In 1970 she met and married the love of her life, Virgil Thompson, a Boeing 727 first officer for Braniff Airlines. Virgil was a single father of three young children, and as God had planned it, at the age of 22 she became an instant mother to Wendy (8), Mike (7), and Ricky (5). She adopted all three kids within a year. In 1975, Linda and Virgil had a son, Chad. The family lived in Colleyville, TX from 1971-1983. She raised the kids, volunteered at school, and served in the local Colleyville government.
In 1980 Linda pursued higher education, earning her bachelor's degree in political science at UT Arlington, followed by a law degree from the prestigious Law School of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.
After passing the Virginia Bar Exam, Linda clerked for a federal judge for two years. The family settled in the Seattle area in 1991. She was later elected as King County District Court Judge where she served for 16 years. Her favorite pastimes included crabbing and boating throughout the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest and vacationing at their condo on Kauai.
Linda was a strong woman of faith. The two things she loved most were Jesus and her family. She was a long-time member of Bible Study Fellowship and volunteered her time serving and representing battered women in shelters.
Linda is survived by her husband Virgil, daughter Wendy Nylaan (Rhyne), son Mike (Dawn), son Rick (Jannine), and son Chad (Katie); Grandchildren: Ashley, Whitney, Chelsea, Jessica, Christie, Michelle, Cody, Alexandra, Matthew, Benjamin, Jake, and Riley; Great Greatgrandchildren: Ainsley, Maeve, Wyatt, and Weston; Siblings: Joanne Richter, Judy Kallevig, and Shannon Blaney.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Robson Ranch Country Club in Denton, TX on November 4, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. In accordance with Linda's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Healing NET Foundation.
