Linda Joanne (Miller) Brock, aged 78, passed away on July 20, 2024, in Denton, TX. Born on December 28, 1945 in Dallas, TX, she led a fulfilling life marked by her commitment to education, love for nature, and dedication to her family.
Linda completed her education at Hillcrest High School (Class of 1963) in Dallas, followed by North Texas State University where she earned her Bachelor's degree. Her Master's degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree were earned at Texas Women's University. Dr. Brock dedicated 24 years to TWU as a faculty member, profoundly impacting the lives of countless students. She served on hundreds of graduate committees, served as the Faculty Advisor of the Student Association for Marriage & Family Therapy for many years, and never missed a graduation ceremony. Her contributions to TWU are immortalized in the Linda Brock Student Lounge in Woodcock Hall and the Brock Family Scholarship, ensuring her legacy will endure. Additionally, The National Association of Social Workers Denton Unit honored her as Public Citizen of the Year, and she had served on a Denton County Grand Jury. Linda was an active member of the League of Women Voters for many years.
Beyond her professional achievements, Linda was a passionate gardener, an avid reader, and enjoyed daily walks in the park. Her love for all things nature was evident in every aspect of her life, providing her and those around her a deep sense of peace and joy.
Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luther A. Brock; her father, Robert E. Miller; her mother, Elizabeth H. Miller; and her brother, David R. Miller. She is survived by her son, Darren K. Brock; and sisters, Carol H. Withers, Janet K. Young, and Susan J. Martin.
An Open House Memorial Gathering will be held at her residence at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Brock Family Scholarship at Texas Women's University in Denton, TX, honoring Linda's lifelong dedication to education and her belief in the transformative power of learning.
