Obituary

Leta Allis Roach, 91, previously of Denton passed away on November 4, 2014 at The Willows of Meadow Branch assisted living in Winchester, Virginia.

Leta was born March 25, 1923 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to John and Anna Allis. She grew up in the foothills south of Denver and attended the University of Colorado where she met and married Archie Roach in 1942. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2008. In 1950, they settled in Denton where Archie taught botany and did research at North Texas State University. While raising two children in the 1950's, Leta obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in elementary education at North Texas State University. In the 1960's and 1970's she taught first grade in Double Oaks and Lake Dallas. She and Archie bought and renovated small houses in Denton and rented them to college students; they were later sold in the 1980's. After retirement, Leta traveled extensively with her husband throughout the United States and Europe; they also visited Australia. She was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle addict.

Leta is survived by her children Dr. Alice J. Roach of Ashburn, Virginia and Dr. John W. Roach of Blacksburg, Virginia. She also has 3 nieces and 2 nephews in Colorado.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Roselawn Memorial Park. Online condolences may be left at www.mulkeymasondenton.com
