Leslie Suzanne Motes went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 21, 2008, after a courageous battle with cervical cancer. Suzanne was an inspiration to many as she fought with faith, courage and trust in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her smile was contagious and could light up a room and brighten everyone's day. Suzanne accepted Christ on Mother's Day of 1984, grew up in Crestview Church of Christ in Waco, and was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton. Her family is forever grateful for the countless prayers, visits, cards, notes and love expressed by those that were touched by her life.
Suzanne was born on March 15, 1971 in Waco, Texas and graduated from Robinson High School. She earned a Bachelors degree from Abilene Christian University and received a Masters Degree in Education from Texas A & M Commerce. She began her teaching and coaching career at Nimitz High School in Irving, moving to Bowie High School in Arlington, and then to Marcus High School in Flower Mound. She later coached and taught in Garland ISD before joining the Athletic Office for the district. She also worked for the North Texas Region of USA Volleyball and coached for Mid-Cities volleyball club. She later owned and developed Image Volleyball Club. Suzanne touched countless lives as a coach and teacher. Her strong sense of right and self-discipline inspired her girls and provided them a strong role model.
Suzanne is survived by her loving husband Mark and the light of their life their 13 month old son Ryan. Also surviving are parents Tom and Susan Catchings of Waco, grandfather, G.V. Simpkins of Sherman, in-laws, John and Marsha Motes of Sulphur Springs, sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Ezra Powell of Bryan, and sister-in-law Amanda Motes of Sulphur Springs. She is also survived by some very dear friends as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Jean Simpkins, and her paternal grandparents T.A. Catchings Sr. and Trudy Catchings.
Suzanne's life will be remembered and celebrated with a memorial service on Tuesday, March 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton with Dr. Brent Taylor of FBCC and Dr. Jim Martin of Crestview Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the City Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
In lieu of flowers, it was Suzanne's desire that gifts in her memory be made to the Ryan Motes Scholarship fund c/o City National Bank, P.O. Box 798, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75483 or to the First Baptist Church of Carrollton's pre-school department located at 2400 N. Josey Lane, Carrollton, Texas 75006.
