Leon Gene Mulanax, 88, of Austin, formerly of Sanger, died Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Soco Village in Austin.

Mr. Mulanax was born on July 1, 1933 in Lindsay, OK to Tommy Graham and Bessie Lee (Sulivan) Mulanax. He was married to Billie Lois Skinner on June 15, 1962 in Las Cruces, NM; she died on October 8, 2020. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanger; the Eastern Star and was a 32 ^nd degree Mason. He served in the National Guard and retired from Safety-Kleen in Denton.

Leon is survived by his daughters, Vickie O'Donnell (Steve) of Amarillo, Debra Thomas (T.J.) of Waco, Diana Lynne Land (Steve) of Panama, Jo Robin Horner (James) of Arlington; Debra Fajardo of Amarillo; Cheryl King (Doug) of Groesbeck; sons, Allen Pitchford of DeSoto, Tom Mulanax (Susan Lindsay) of Austin; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

Leon's heart was in service.  Serving his country, his family, his church and the Lord.  Whatever he had of himself to give, he gave it.  He was fiercely devoted to his wife and cared for her until her final moments on this earth.  A devotion he carried with him into their eternity.  He was also an avid crafter.  Among many things, Leon made beautiful latch hook rugs and wall hangings. Along with his children, many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren were blessed with the gifts of his wonderful work.  In his later years when his hands could no longer make them he enjoyed seeing new generations learn the love of his craft.  His greatest joy was his family whom he loved.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, December 17, 2021 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 708 South 5 ^th Street, Sanger. Interment will follow at Sanger Cemetery.
