IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laverne Elizabeth
Caron
November 5, 1920 – September 11, 2025
LaVerne Elizabeth Caron was born to Albert and Bessie Zuerker on November 5, 1920 in Chicago, IL. She had one sister, Dorothy. Her early years were spent in Naperville, Illinois, before she relocated to Chicago, Illinois, following her marriage.
When LaVerne reached the appropriate age, she secured a position as a waitress at DeMetts in downtown Chicago, where she encountered her future husband, Edwin Caron. They were married October 15, 1940 in Chicago, IL. Four years later, they had a daughter named Donna.
LaVerne joined the workforce in 1947 where she worked at Admiral Corporation in Chicago. Edwin and LaVerne moved to Antioch, IL in 1965. LaVerne continued working at Admiral but had to commute on the train that took about an hour and a half each way. LaVerne realized she needed a pastime to fill her days, prompting her to take up crocheting. She initially crafted outfits for Barbie dolls intended for her granddaughters, relying solely on the dolls' sizes as her guide rather than following any patterns. As her creativity flourished, she expanded her talents to include finger puppets and beautiful dolls.
Edwin passed away on January 19, 1980, after sharing 41 years of marriage with LaVerne. Their life together was filled with unique experiences and memorable moments. A year later, LaVerne met a very kind man named Sam Vivo, who had also experienced the loss of his wife around the same time she lost Ed.
LaVerne continued working for a few years and retired from Admiral in 1985. Sam decided to buy an RV and start camping with LaVerne, visiting different campgrounds around the Wisconsin and northern Illinois areas. They made two trips to Texas in the RV to see LaVerne's daughter and her family. They were companions for 16 years until Sam passed away.
LaVerne had a neighbor named Charlie who lived down the road, and since both were solitary, they began to spend time together, often going garage sailing. This newfound companionship led LaVerne to assist her cousin Bill and his wife Betty with their estate sales, where she took on the role of cashier. In 2014, LaVerne moved to Texas, as 1,000 miles from her family was too far away. LaVerne lived with her daughter and husband for 11 years until she passed away on September 11, 2025.
LaVerne is survived by her loving daughter Donna Brown, grandchildren; Kenneth Brown and wife Clara, Roxanne Pickard, Randall Brown and wife Michele, Cheryl Escobedo and husband Rene, Kristen Coppinger and husband Billy, Kevin Brown and wife Audreanna. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Albert Zuerker and his wife Bessie, her husband Edwin Caron, her sister Dorothy Rieck, and son-in-law Kenneth Brown.
LaVerne was fortunate to have six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, which enriched her life immensely. She lived a fulfilling life, and her absence will be deeply felt. We will cherish her memory. God bless Mom.
