LaVelle Perry Nelson passed away Thursday, May 22 at 90 years of age at Good Samaritan on Hinkle Street in Denton, Texas. She was born February 23, 1924 in Abilene, Texas to Robert and Eula Perry but the family moved to Waco when she was a young child. She lived in Waco all but the last four years of her life. LaVelle attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High in 1942. She married Herbert Nelson on October 19, 1942. They raised four sons in Waco, all attended Richfield High School.
She leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Nellie Nelson of Crossroads, Tom and Teresa Nelson of Denton, Bill Nelson of Temple, and Jim and Rhonda Nelson of Grapevine, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, a sister, Annetta Cotton of Waco, and numerous nieces and nephews. LaVelle was preceded in death by her husband who died in August of 1981, her parents, three brothers, and a sister.
Services will be at Denton Bible Church Chapel at 10am on Tuesday, May 27 with visitation on Monday night, 6-8pm at the Denton Bible Church Chapel. Internment will be in Waco, Texas with a 3 P.M. graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery.
"Our father taught us how to laugh. Our mother taught us how to live." The rails and uprights of life were laid by our mother that guided us all through life. Industry, purity, integrity, honesty, perseverance, family, loyalty, and respect were the mother's milk upon which we were raised. Anything that any of us achieved was because we cut our teeth on the excellence and strength of this rare woman. "Her children praise her in the gate." We take our place in the gate, Momma. We bless God for you and for the honor of being your children and the truth upon which our lives were shaped.
Memorials can be made in LaVelle's honor to Denton Bible Church Student Ministry Building Fund if desired.
