Laura Alice Dowdey-Mattoon
Laura was born in Dallas, Texas on September 28, 1959 and passed away on September 7, 2017 after fighting a long and courageous battle with complications associated with Juvenile Diabetes. Laura was born to Ruth Connell Dowdey and the late Oron Morgan "Flip" Dowdey, Jr. of Dallas TX. She is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Aaron Mattoon and their beloved four legged "kids"; Bob, Macie and Zoe; mother, Ruth Connell Dowdey; sisters, Lisa Dowdey Gilbreath and Leslie Lynn Dowdey; nephews, Ryan Scott Gilbreath and Jordan Reid Gilbreath; as well as many friends.
Laura attended Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. In her youth, she began riding and showing horses, her first and favorite being "Chili". Laura graduated from W. T. White High School. She worked in the travel industry followed by time spent at EDS in Plano, Texas. Laura later moved to Oak Point, Texas where she spent the last twenty-five years of her life continuing her legacy of caring for animals of all types. She and her husband cared for giant tortoises, rare exotic birds, horses, donkeys, pot belly pigs, dogs and cats plus many other species. Laura had great compassion for animals in need and supported many organizations who care for abandoned, wounded or animals nearing the end of life.
A private memorial service will be held. Any desired donations may be made in Laura's memory to Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge in Tyler, Texas or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
