Obituary

Kevin Bryant Walden was born on May 3, 1957, in Amarillo, Texas.  He died peacefully on December 22, 2017.  An only child, Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Walden Woods, his father, Henry Dewayne Walden, and his son, Bobby Milton Darnell.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Walden, of Justin, Texas; three children—Roger Darnell of Keller, Texas; Gerri and Michael Elizardo of Argyle, Texas; Brian and Stacy Darnell, also of Argyle, Texas; and seven grandchildren. Kevin is also survived by his special loves, Maggie, Sassy, and Addie, his fur babies who gave him love, comfort, and countless hours of smiles.
Kevin grew up in Amarillo, Texas, where he graduated from Canyon High School and attended Amarillo College.  He worked in the construction industry until 1976, when he went to work for ATMOS Energy Corporation. He remained at ATMOS until June of 2017, when his illnesses caused him to retire after 40 years of service.
Fond of history and the arts, Kevin loved attending musical theater productions and traveling. He and Anna had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world, experiencing history, world-class art, and exciting adventures for the past two decades.  One of his favorite places to visit was Italy, especially Venice and Rome, where he loved exploring the back alleys, nooks, and crannies. On his first trip to Rome, he made friends with a local baker in a small Mom and Pop bake shop at Campo de Fiori, who taught him which were the best decadent pastries to enjoy with his authentic Italian cappuccino.
Everyone who knew Kevin well knew him as a quiet man with a subtle sense of humor, but especially as one who loved Jesus and cherished his family. He lived his last months with illness and pain, but never complained.  The day after his passing, his son, Brian, said of him,

"Yesterday the world lost Superman. The man who showed me how to love Jesus, provide for my family, work hard, play hard, cherish my spouse, and a plethora of superpowers. I love you Pops. Keep a rod ready until I can get there to fish with you and Jesus."

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2017 in the chapel of Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton.
