Obituary

Kevin Louis Toman,77, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023. Kevin was the youngest of
four children born to Elizabeth and John Toman in Queens Village, NY on July 15, 1946.
As a young child, Kevin loved spending time with his neighborhood friends, playing handball,
and stickball. His athleticism earned him a basketball scholarship to St. Mary's in Manhasset, NY where
he graduated in 1964. He went on to study business and marketing, receiving a business degree from City
University, NY and MBA from California Western University. He served in the Navy during the
Vietnam War where he was stationed at a naval hospital working with wounded war soldiers.
Kevin met his wife, Mary Davis, in 1966, at a local dance hall in Queens Village. These "two
drifters, off to see the world," married on June 22, 1968 and spent 55 years together in a loving marriage
full of adventure. Kevin loved the outdoors: clamming, kayaking, sailing, skiing, and playing golf. He is
survived by two children, Jonathan and Jean and four grandchildren, Hanna, Katherine, George and
James.
Kevin was loved and respected by many people and was active in his faith community at St.
Mark's, where he was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, Eucharistic Minister, and pro-life advocate.
He was also a successful businessman, for 46 years in the mattress industry, starting out as a sales trainee
for Simmons, advancing to upper positions in Sealy, Serta, Restonic and Englander, where he retired as
its CEO in 2019. Kevin was a well-regarded leader and used his talents to serve others, always making
people feel valued no matter their title. He was very proud of receiving the industry's Lifetime Bedding
Achievement Award in 2019.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on December 18th at St. Mark Church in Denton, TX. There
will be a rosary at 10am followed by a Mass at 10:30am. Kevin's cremated remains will be buried this
Spring at his gravesite in Duxbury, MA.
