Capt. Kenneth Phelps, 86, took his final flight May 10, 2016. He was born on May 12, 1929 in Winston-Salem, NC to E.E. and Geneva Garrett Phelps. He attended Guilford College and the University of Texas. At 19 he joined the Air Force where he further developed his flying skills. He flew for American Airlines for 33 years. Ken served as President of The Grey Eagles Association in 1997. He also served at least 6 terms in several Presbyterian churches as an Elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Ruth Thompson Phelps. Ken is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Jane, his brother, Richard Phelps, a sister, Jo Ann Wilhelm and his three children, Drew Phelps, David Phelps and Jennifer Phelps as well as five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Denton. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to The Alzheimer's Assoc. of America or the American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum.
