Obituary

Kathryn Louise York entered the arms of Jesus on June 24, 2023, at the age of seventy-seven. She was born in Graham, Texas on April 22, 1946, to parents Sam and Verna Lee Bigham.

Kathy always had a smile and encouraging word to share with others. Her uplifting attitude was contagious. Even during difficult health challenges, she was able to let her light shine for Jesus. Her faith in the Lord and the way she loved and cared for others was such an inspiration. It's no surprise Kathy chose nursing as the profession in which she would spend over twenty years blessing others with her care. Most of her nursing years were spent taking care of the residents of Denton State School.

Married in 1967, Kathy and Ronnie enjoyed 56 years of marriage. A loving wife and mother, she raised her children to love the Lord. She was a prayer warrior, always willing to stop whatever she was doing to pray. She prayed with prayer teams every Wednesday and volunteered with various church ministries over the years including teaching Sunday School and running a clothes closet to provide clothing for those in need. Her care for others also extended to visitors in her home, always making them feel welcome. Many have found respite in her home with a hot meal, a warm bed, and lots of wisdom imparted to them.

Kathy possessed many talents. It seemed like she could do just about anything. All those years she followed her daddy around like a shadow helping him in his workshop seemed to rub off on her. Kathy was an amateur artist with a passion and talent for painting. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing, gardening, and working in her yard. However, her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandkids and grand-dogs.

Grandma, Grandma Kathy, and Mawmaw were her most cherished names because that's what her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately called her. She could often be found in the backyard sword fighting with her grandson, in the kitchen baking cupcakes with her granddaughter, behind an easel teaching a grandchild to paint, or even painting her youngest great-granddaughter's nails. On weekends, she attended grandchildren's flag football games, soccer games, and dance recitals. She was always cheering them on whether in sport or in life. She loved her grandchildren deeply.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Ginger York. What a reunion they must be having now! She is survived by her loving husband, Ronnie York, her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff & Reva York, her son and daughter-in-law, Rowdy & Kimmy York, and her daughter and son-in-law, Ronda & Danny Barnes. Her grandchildren include Jodi Calucag York & Andrew Calucag, August Troy & Stan Opdahl, Ty Barnes, and Taylor Barnes. Great-grandchildren include Harrison Calucag, Jaquelin Calucag, Lorelei Calucag, Grace Opdahl, Ryann Opdahl, and Titus Opdahl. Kathy is also survived by her younger sister, Sherlyn Holcomb.

The funeral service will be held at 10 AM Friday, June 30, 2023, at Lifeline Church, 2800 Pennsylvania Drive, Denton. Interment will follow at Pioneer Cemetery in Graham at 2 PM.
