Obituary

Katherine Sloan Speegle was born December 11, 1914 in Chico, Texas and died June 22, 2010 in Denton. Dr. Katherine Sloan Speegle, 95, taught English literature at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth from 1965-1980. Receiving her Ph. D. from North Texas State University in 1974, she specialized in Victorian English literature. Earlier she had worked as an English instructor at The University of North Texas. Throughout her career she strived to share the riches of literature to her students, but also was deeply aware of and sensitive to the human experience that shaped their lives.
Predeceased by her spouse, Robert E. Speegle, and her daughter Roberta Lois Speegle, she is survived by her children, Philip T. Speegle (spouse Mary), Kathleen Speegle Schmitt (spouse Edward), and Roger Blake Speegle; as well her grandchildren, Greg Speegle, Karen Quintanilla, Darrin Speegle, Karl Schmitt, and Ursula Schmitt. She enjoyed five great-grandchildren: Mark, Erica, Alberto, Philip and Lisa.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 26, at First Presbyterian Church, 1114 W. University Drive, in Denton Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. On line condolences may be left at www.mulkeymason.c
