Karen Comstock Leatherwood of Argyle, TX passed away Tuesday May 20, 2008 after a valiant struggle against cancer. Born August 22, 1950, she was preceded in her death by her parents, Edwin Barnes Comstock and Sue Harris Comstock. Karen graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas in 1968.
She has concluded her life mission of loving and caring for her husband of 40 years, Dwight Leatherwood, her brother Eric Comstock of Houston and her large extended family in North Texas. This extended family consists of friends and co-workers from the family business, Leatherwood Plastics and from her associations with the Top Tin Street Rods of Denton County and her involvement in the annual Goat Roast Rod Run. Her four-legged children Jake and Oscar are missing their playmate.
Karen and Dwight started Leatherwood Plastics as a "garage" business in 1980 in Flower Mound, TX and expanded it to its present size in the company headquarters in Lewisville, TX. Both Karen's artistic vision and business skills led to her heading up the company's advertising group as well as spearheading their corporate data systems. Leatherwood Plastics benefited from her constant work to improve the image and professionalism of the company. She was vice-president at the time of her death.
She has a passion for nature, which was evoked in her paintings as well as her intense love of all living creatures. RV camping and fishing were favorite guilty pastimes, but often became secondary if any family, friends or associates needed her help or assistance. All who knew her will remember her quick wit, humor and creativity as well as her courage.
Karen battled cancer in several forms since the mid 1970's and volunteered with several cancer groups over the years. It is her wish that any memorial donations be directed to the American Cancer Association and/or the Flower Mound Humane Society or any associate fundraising groups approved by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A celebration of her life will be held at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 148 West Church Street, Lewisville, TX on Tuesday, May 27 at 3:00 P.M.
