IN LOVING MEMORY OF
June Bernice
Burns
June 2, 1935 – October 3, 2023
June Bernice Edwards Burns was born on June 2, 1935 to John B. and Geneva Edith (Wilson) Edwards in Duncan, Oklahoma. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
June grew up in Oklahoma with her parents and sister Jane. She shared many memories, "her stories" as she often wrote about and talked of as well as stories of hard work at the bakery they owned, her many aunts and cousins, World War II and how it affected them all, and stories of great love of her family.
She met Perry Joe Burns at the age of 16 at the skating rink in Sulphur, Oklahoma. They married two years later in 1953. They were blessed with a son Steven Perry in 1955; he went to heaven in 1957. She later would say that was the point where both her and Perry turned to God with all of their hearts and with that amazing faith, sacrifices, and love, they raised two daughters Jan and Jill.
June went to college when her daughters entered elementary. She graduated from Texas Woman's University with a bachelor's degree in education. Teaching was her passion and her gift. She touched many students' lives as many would visit her on 5th Street in Krum. Her God-given gift was to make each and every person that entered her life feel special. She always said every child can learn, "I just have to figure out exactly how to teach them." She was an avid reader and learner of all things, loved to travel, and go camping. She had a lifelong dream realized when she and Perry went to Europe.
June was always sending handwritten notes to her children, her grandchildren, family and friends. Each of her grandchildren felt they were her favorite, and they were! She passionately loved each one uniquely. She attended more of their sporting events than we could count, camped with them, and hosted each year an "Itty-Bitty-Birthday Party" for the four of them. She was her family and friends' greatest prayer warrior. She always had a list by her bedside to pray fervently for each and every need on her knees. She will be remembered as that Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman. She would say what is in your heart and your head is more important than what is on your back, "pretty is, as pretty does." But most importantly, she said if you don't know Jesus, nothing else will matter.
She loved her Lord and Savior and her family first and foremost. Her purpose in life was to love and serve her God, and care and love her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her absence has left a void for us all but knowing she is with her sweetheart, her son, and her family eases our broken hearts a touch.
June is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Steven, and her sister Jane. Among those who already miss her terribly include her daughter Jan Springer and husband Kip; daughter Jill Coker; grandchildren Grey Coker and wife Jessica, Colby Springer and wife Abby, Katie Thompson and husband Tyson, and Preston Springer; great-grandchildren Georgia June, Stone, Grey, Gage, Ty Bennett, and Claire; and many other extended family members.
Per June's wishes, a private graveside will be held in Duncan, Oklahoma.
