Judy Belle Murphy, 65, of Denton, TX passed away at her home on September 16, 2016. She was born January 14, 1951 in Altus, Oklahoma to Gunner O. and Carol (Miller) Johnson. She attended public schools in Snyder and Lawton Oklahoma and graduated from Cameron University in Lawton. On June 24, 1975 she married William R. Murphy, a U.S. Army Warrant Officer helicopter pilot at the New Post Chapel at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Over the next 20 years, she and her husband had assignments in Alabama, Hawaii, Kentucky and Germany. After his military retirement, they settled in Denton, Texas where she became a Pastoral Ministry Assistant at the First Baptist Church of Denton and he became a helicopter pilot for CareFlite. She then earned a Master's Degree with honors from the University of North Texas in Denton. She volunteered as a Driver Safety Instructor and a tax preparer for the elderly and those with low income. She was a proud member of the Texas State Guard.
Judy is survived by her husband William, her parents Gunner and Carol Johnson of Elgin, OK, her sister Jody Ingram, also of Elgin, and her brothers Randy Johnson of Texarkana, TX and Gunner O. Johnson, Jr. of Pflugerville, TX. She also leaves behind many extended family members.
A graveside service will be held on September 23, 2016 at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK at 2:00 PM.
