Obituary

Judy Ann Atkins Brownd, 73 of Plainview, Texas and Monahans, Texas ended her two year battle with cancer and peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at her daughter's home in Aubrey, Texas surrounded by family.
Judy was born in Plainview, Texas to Jack Atkins and Elizabeth Vaughn Atkins on November 13, 1942. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1960 and remembered her high school years, friends, cheerleading, and growing up in the 50s as some of the best years of her life.
She attended West Texas State University, and later married Jackie Brownd, originally from Sudan, Texas. Judy graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Education specializing in English. She worked as an educator for 26 years and taught 5th and 6th grades in towns including Post, TX, Snyder, TX, Levelland, TX, and Monahans, TX, where she was a long-time resident until her retirement. Nominated by former students for Who's Who Among America's Best Teachers, she is remembered for always having the special heart of a teacher. Family and friends remember her for her many special birthday cards including Granny dollars, and for reminding us to watch for God's unique reminders that our loved ones who have gone to be with Him are around us in everyday miracles.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Julie Brownd Loyd and husband Jeff Loyd of Aubrey, Texas, and Jodie Brownd Blancett of Prosper, Texas. She is survived Jackie Brownd of Monahans, Texas to whom she was married for 42 years. She is survived by one brother, Tom Atkins of Spring, Texas. Judy was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Jaycie Faith Blancett and Brady Jack Blancett, and Lacy Jill Loyd. She is also survived by her niece, Jennifer Atkins Stair and husband Derick Stair of Tomball, Texas and their children Hunter and Parker Stair. She is survived by many loving cousins, who were like her brothers and sisters, extended family and life-long friends. She is also survived by her beloved dog "Murphy".
Judy is preceded in death by her father, Jack Atkins and mother, Elizabeth "Sis" Vaughn Atkins. She is also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Tom Vaughn and Ora Irick Vaughn and her paternal grandparents George Atkins and Maude Morton Atkins, all long-time residents of Plainview and Hale County.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Judy will be Monday, June 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas. Brother Don Robertson and Pastor Jason Smith of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. A reception and visitation with family and friends will be held at the church immediately following the service. A private burial for immediate family will be held at a later time. She will rest next to her parents at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, Texas.
Memorials may be made to College Heights Baptist Church, Plainview, Texas or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Qasim, Oncologist Denton, Texas and his nurses and staff, as well as the nurses and staff of VNA Ann's Haven Hospice of Denton, Texas.
