Dr. Judson Dana Maynard, Ph.D., 83, of Denton, formerly of Lubbock, passed away on June 27, 2013 in Denton. He was born April 15, 1930 in Barnes, Kansas to John Wilbert and Elizabeth (Newton) Maynard. He was married to Gladys Lewis on June 9, 1953 in Missoula, MT and she passed away on May 29, 2008.
After receiving his doctorate in 1961 from the University of Indiana at Bloomington, Dr. Maynard served as a professor of music at Texas Tech University in Lubbock for 33 years. In addition to his teaching career, Dr. Maynard delighted audiences all over America, Mexico, and Europe with his organ and carillon recitals, and shared his talents locally as church organist, choir director, and choir member, in addition to performing with various early music ensembles. Dr. Maynard is survived by three daughters: The Rev. Dana Lynn Orwig and husband Steven Rhea Orwig, M.D. of Oklahoma City, OK; Mrs. Mary Catherine Bowles and husband Gary Lynn Bowles of Arlington, TX; and Mrs. Polly Maynard Watson and husband Barry Watson of Denton, along with three sisters, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on July 11 at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, 602 North Old Orchard Lane, Lewisville, TX, Mother Freda Marie Brown, celebrant, and Frs. Courtland Moore and Ralph Masters assisting.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Judson Maynard Memorial % The Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, P.O. Box 292365, Lewisville, TX 75029-2365. The memorial fund will be used for the completion of the organ.
