Joyce Rae (Foster) Taliaferro, age 85, of Denton, passed away Friday, November 29th, 2013 at Corinth Rehabilitation Suites in Corinth. She was born October 10, 1928 in Krum, TX, to J.W. and Mae (Jacobs) Foster. She attended Stony Community School, Ponder High School and Texas Woman's University. She received her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Texas Woman's University, and an honorary Ph.D. She married Vernice Doyle Taliaferro on December 31, 1950 in Denton, Texas. Joyce was a member of the Pearl Street Church of Christ (later renamed the Sherman Drive Church of Christ). She worked for years as an elementary school teacher in the Denton public school system. Joyce will always be remembered as an honest and caring mother, grandmother, wife, sister and daughter.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Doyle of Corinth; her two sons, Lasley and wife Laurie of Denton and Paul and wife Cindy of McPherson, Kansas; two grandchildren, Nicole and Kyle of McPherson, Kansas; sister, Pat and husband Gilbert S. Gil of Spring, Texas. Joyce was preceded in death by sisters, Geneva Zerwer, Theda McCary, Eunice Paul, Margaret Tritt and brother, Allen Foster. The family is deeply appreciative of the loving care given by the staff at Corinth Rehab. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home chapel, 705 N. Locust, Denton, Texas. Weylan Deaver, pastor of the Sherman Drive church of Christ will be officiating.
