Joy Clay Wright

Joy Wright passed away on July 16, 2023 in Denton. She was born December 30, 1927, in Durant, Oklahoma to J.A. and Bea Clay. She graduated with music education degrees from Ward Belmont College, Southeastern State College and Columbia University Teachers College. She had a 29 year teaching career in Pecos, Texas; Memphis,Tennessee and in Denton.

Joy married Joe G. Wright in 1949. Joe died in September 2009 just after celebrating 60 years of marriage.

In retirement Joy loved volunteering at Our Daily Bread where she met many dear friends. She also loved "holding down the pew" at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton..

Joy is survived by her daughter, Madelon Clark, and her grandson, Emmett Clark. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her son, Allen Wright.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton. Memorials may be made to Our Daily Bread or a charity of your choice.
