Johnnie E. Sprabary, 70, of Denton died Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Johnnie was the youngest of seven children born to Ray and Eunice Sprabary on December 17, 1946. He grew up in Denton and proudly served four years as a member of the United States Army after graduating high school. Johnnie married Sherry Lynn Higgs November 2, 1968 after a chance meeting at Spinning Wheels Skating Rink that resulted in 47 years of marriage. Johnnie worked as a pressman at Moore Business Forms for 38 years before retiring in 2006.
Johnnie enjoyed camping and fishing, as well as country and gospel music. He was known for being gregarious and full of life. He sang beautifully and often. The center of his world, however, was his family. A devoted family man; there was nothing he would not do for them.
Johnnie was preceded in death by both parents and four brothers - Toby, Billy Joe, Merrell and James. He is survived by his wife; one brother, Kenneth Sprabary; one sister, Pearlene Carter, one daughter; Tammy Lynn Sprabary; five grandchildren, Robert, Tim, Mark, Elisabeth and Katie; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Visitation for Johnnie will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p m on Tuesday evening at Mulkey-Bowles Montgomery Funeral Home 705 N. Locust St. Denton, TX. (formerly Mulkey-Mason). On Wednesday at 12:30, a luncheon will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Aubrey followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 and internment at Oak Grove cemetery.
