John Christopher Stokes, age 55, of Argyle, TX passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 29, 2020 due to a sudden cardiac event. John was born in Montebello, California to Thomas Stokes and Selah Tarantino. John started his law enforcement career with the Orange County Sheriff's Department in 1986. After moving to Texas, John joined the Southlake Police Department in 1999. John earned the titles of officer, corporal, and sergeant while with the department. Sergeant Stokes most recently served as the School Resource Officer supervisor for Carroll ISD schools. During his tenure with Southlake PD, John was honored with five commendations and was named the Southlake Police Department 2018 Supervisor of the Year.
John loved his career, community, and family. John frequented the shops at Southlake Town Square and many local businesses; with his jovial spirit and humor he enjoyed interacting and getting to know everyone around town. He loved treating his family to from-scratch home cooking. John's hobbies included painting, firearms, telling Dad jokes, and lending a helping hand to his kids. John is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Stokes and Selah Tarantino.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Heidi Stokes; his six adult children, Krysta Stokes, Ryan Stokes, Amy Stokes, Rebecca Stokes, Alec Riesenberg, and Michael Riesenberg; his brothers Dairl Stokes and Jeff Stokes; and two nephews and five grandchildren. A service to honor John will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2020 at Gateway Church in Southlake, TX.
