Obituary

John Riley Hampton Jr. (J.R.), 85 of Aubrey, Texas passed away peacefully at his home with his family at this bedside from end-stage Parkinson disease on Monday, March 7, 2011. J. R. was born December 15, 1925 in Colorado City, Texas.
He attended Aubrey Schools and served in the US Army/Pacific Theater from 1944-1946. He married Barbara Ann Gentle on November 24, 1952. The couples 2nd wedding anniversary brought them their first bundle of joy, a baby girl. In J.R.'s own words, "Barbara wanted the house and six kids and well- that is what she got". He accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior in 1955 and relied on His saving grace the rest of his life. His favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. He enjoyed good gospel music, sang in the church choir, and served as Song Leader at First Baptist Church of Aubrey in the 1960's.
He hauled hay in the early years just like everybody else; his hay truck was his pride and joy in fact he had several new automobiles that fit the category of "his pride and joy". He owned and operated Hampton Painting until 1992 at which time he turned his business over to his son, John III. After retirement he enjoyed can recycling so much that in Aubrey he is know as the "Can-Do Man". His 2nd hobby was collecting model antique cars which he proudly displayed on triple decked shelves that wrapped the walls of his living room. He was fond of ball caps and had quite a collection, but the one he could always be seen in was his "J.R." cap, he fondly referred to as "his I.D.".
He loved his family dearly, never met a stranger he wasn't willing to help out, and had such a neat sense of humor. We will miss his humor, his kindness and his love.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Sr. & Laura L. Hampton; his loving wife of 46 years Barbara Ann; son Billy; and two brothers Joe Neil and Carroll.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Laura Wilson Hampton of 14 years; four daughters, Linda Webb and husband Lindon Ray of Aubrey, Wanda Lohr and husband Allan, Debbie Salsman and husband Jim, Sara Tischler and husband Martin of Pilot Point, one son John R.
