John Wesley Erwin, age 89, of Denton, formerly of Era, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2018. John was born on May 12, 1929 in Argyle, Texas to Henry and Myrtle (Burrows) Erwin. He married Edith Milcena Lucchino on August 11, 1953 in New Bern, North Carolina. The Erwin's resided in Dallas, Texas for several years before settling in Era, Texas.
John enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946. In 1951, John was drafted into the United States Marine Corp. Following his military service, John worked as a beer distributer until his retirement from Urban Endres Distributing in 2001. He also worked for many years at Turtle Hill Golf Course in Muenster.
John was also a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of Denton Bible Church. Prior to moving to Denton, John spent approximately forty years as a member of Era Baptist Church where he assisted in constructing the current church building being enjoyed today.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, six sisters and four brothers. John is survived by one brother, Wayne Erwin and four children, John (& Dora) Erwin of Era, Pamela (& Randy) Robertson of Flower Mound, Mark (& Sandy) Erwin of Plugerville, and Rhonda (& Richard) Payeur of Denton, nine grandbabies, Mandy Neu, Chase Ashton, Joni Anderle, Adam Payeur, Olivia Neu, Rachel Erwin, Natalie Erwin, Hannah Erwin, and Madison Robertson, and 7 great-grandbabies.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in John's honor to the Snowball Express, the Gary Sinise Foundation, which serves the children of fallen military heroes.
