Dr. Joe G. Wright passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Born to Lonnie and Iva Wright in Caney, Oklahoma, he graduated from Bokchito High School. He served in the South Pacific during WWII and in the Aleutian Islands during the Korean Conflict.
Joe graduated from Southeastern State College and married Joy Clay in 1949. He received his MA from Columbia University and became principal of elementary and junior high schools in Pecos, Texas.
A change of professions took him to Memphis, Tennessee, where he graduated from Southern College of Optometry. He practiced optometry in Denton from 1963 until his retirement in 2000.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joy; son, Allen Wright; daughter, Madelon Clark and husband, Kerry; grandson, Emmett Clark; sister, June Cates of Brady, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton. The family requests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
